Motor and everything is installed. Will be splashed this summer, so I can't give you any performance data. Fairly simple install, but I assume all of them are. Its a 48V 5Kwatt direct drive motor. My boat will weigh around 5000 lbs and is 24'7" on deck. It is an inboard.

I am considering tossing the diesel in my 36ft S&S in favour of an electric motor. She's not a heavy boat like yours.

IMO, most aux sailboats have an over-generous amount of installed power for the way I tend to use sailboats. If a very substantial reduction in power and range don't impact the service to which the boat is put to then a much lower powered and shorter range electric propulsion system may be a great alternative. hans hollausWebAug 12, 2024 · Just talked to Tom at Balmar, very helpful. He says (per some standard that I already forgot) 1.4 * alternator's max rated output (or whatever the largest charging source is).
